Traffic began flowing on August 16, 2010 over the nation’s first project to begin construction under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. After eighteen months of labor, the bridge spanning the Osage River near Tuscumbia, Mo. that garnered national and international media attention in February 2009 opened to drivers.

The Missouri Department of Transportation made history by becoming the first state in the nation to have signed a contract and started construction on a transportation project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Within minutes of President Barack Obama signing the economic recovery bill on Feb. 17, 2009, MoDOT went to work to replace the Depression-era bridge over the Osage River bridge near Tuscumbia.
