As director of the Missouri Department of Transportation, Kevin Keith oversees the agency responsible for designing, building, operating and maintaining Missouri’s transportation system - the seventh largest in the United States with more than 33,000 miles of highway and 10,000 bridges.

Governed by a six-member, bipartisan commission, the agency also works to improve airports, river ports, railroads, public transit systems and pedestrian and bicycle travel.

David Nichols, P.E., was appointed Chief Engineer of the Missouri Department of Transportation on March 4, 2011.

Nichols began his career with MoDOT in 1984. During his 27-year career, he has served in a variety of leadership roles including district engineer for the department’s northwest district headquartered in St. Joseph. He has also worked in MoDOT’s Kansas City district. As Chief Engineer, Nichols oversees MoDOT's construction and maintenance activities statewide.

He is active in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Society of Professional Engineers. The University of Missouri Civil Engineering Academy has also honored him as a member of its distinguished alumni.
