Why is MoDOT doing this project?
Over the next two years, MoDOT will make concrete repairs to 14 bridges along I-70 from east of Downtown at Troost Avenue to Van Brunt Boulevard.
Built in 1960, these bridge decks are in poor condition. The concrete is cracking and breaking. Maintenance can no longer keeps the decks in good condition by quickly patching potholes and fixing problems as they occur.
How does this project benefit me?
More in-depth and extensive repairs are needed now to keep the bridges smooth and safe for motorists. Without these repairs, adding a new surface to the bridges will just result in continued pot holes. With much of the bridge structure in good condition, these in-depth concrete repairs will add decades of life to these bridges
What is the project schedule?
These needed repairs will cause increased congestion and slow downs for the 114,000 motorists who use this corridor on a daily basis. In 2010, evening rush hour will be impacted. In 2011, morning rush hour will be impacted.
Commanche Construction Inc., will complete the 9 eastbound bridges on I-70 in 2010, beginning in March and finished no later than November 2010:
- I-670 to I-70 bridge over Troost Avenue
- Over Woodland Avenue
- Over Benton Boulevard
- Over Truman Road
- Over KC Railroad
- Over 18th Street and Indiana Avenue
- Over Norton Avenue

- Over Van Brunt Boulevard
Repairs to 5 westbound bridges on I-70 begin in Spring 2011 and are expected to be complete no later than August 2011:
