Buckle Up and Arrive Alive This Labor Day

New Work Zone Fines Now Effective

Labor Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year, and this year motorists need to be extra cautious because this is also Missouri’s busiest construction year ever. Eleven motorists did not make it home due to traffic crashes last Labor Day weekend. New Highway Work Zone Law Now Effective – Hit A Worker, $10,000 Fine

A new highway work zone law effective Aug. 28 comes with big penalties for reckless drivers. Injuring or killing a highway worker could cost you $10,000, and you could lose your license for a year. New Law

New Booster Seat Law Goes Into Effect

Missouri now has a booster seat law that will keep children safer when riding in a vehicle. The new law went into effect on August 28, and requires children ages 4 through 7 to be in a booster seat. The fine for violating this law is $50 plus court costs. Booster

Battle of the Belt Challenges Teens to Buckle Up

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, in conjunction with American Family Insurance, is taking a regional teen safety belt initiative statewide this year. Battle of the Belt is an educational program in which local high schools compete against each other to increase safety belt use and potentially save lives. BOTB

New Software Will Help Identify Crash Patterns

New computerized collision diagram software will soon help MoDOT districts more efficiently identify intersection crash patterns, which will increase safety and save the department valuable time and resources. Software  

New T-shirts Add to MoDOT’s Greener Image

Motorists will soon be seeing MoDOT field employees in new high visibility green t-shirts instead of vests in some areas. These new threads are retro-reflective and meet federal safety criteria. Employees like the visibility, comfort and overall safety aspect of the new shirts and may begin wearing them by the end of August.
